Nordsee-Zeitung is located in the north of germany and is one of the biggest regional newspapers. 2018 they started to create a digital premium service. The naming agency KILLER® developed the three namings and I supported with the artwork for each suggestion.
The Nordener focused on the width of the north shore of germany and the calm way of life there. The Logo shows this width with an extra wide spacing between the letters.
A galion (figure head) is the statue in front of a ship. So Galion creates a connection to the north sea and matches the leader or pioneer mentality of the target group. Every Letter of the Logo „Galion“ is build out of pioneering typefaces like Helvetica, Garamond, Futura and so on.
In the end Nordsee-Zeitung chose the name Norderlesen. It focuses on the location of the Newspaper in the north. The Logo translates that with a simple apostrophe behind the letter N. It stands for Norderlesen and North at the same time. An apostrophe is marking a possessive case of nouns. So the logo shows that everything that is following Norderlesen is possessive to the north.
